Job Details
Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Computational Biology
Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, University of Oxford, Sherrington Building, Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £30,434 - £37,394 p.a.
Are you a driven and curiosity-motivated scientist interested in rare diseases? We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the group of Dr Christoffer Nellåker: a new group investigating computational phenotyping approaches to aid the diagnosis of rare diseases. Using diverse computational approaches we would be identifying the underlying molecular associations between alterations in facial phenotypes and rare disease. The goal is to uncover novel genotype-phenotype associations but also to develop towards a diagnostic framework for use in clinical settings.
You will be responsible for designing, building and testing functional gene networks for rare diseases and integrate these with computational phenotype networks. You will maintain accurate and up-to-date records to document research progress and take a lead role in writing up data for publication in peer-reviewed journals and to present at group and section meetings.
You must have been (or soon will be) awarded a PhD in a relevant discipline and should have experience with a range of computational biology techniques. Good organisational skills and being willing to work as part of a team are essential. A keen interest in machine learning and statistical data mining approaches is desirable.
Dr Nellåker will be delighted to answer informal enquiries: email him at Christoffer.Nellaker@well.ox.ac.uk.
You will be based initially in the Sherrington Building in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford, OX1 3PT, and later when the group transfers to the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the John Radcliffe Hospital, OX3 9DU.
The position is funded by an MRC Methodology Research Grant for a fixed-term of up to 3 years.
