About This Position:
A successful candidate will join Avitide and lead affinity resin development efforts as an integral role the within Avitide’s industry-leading affinity purification discovery and development technology and downstream processing team. Key responsibilities will include the design, optimization, scouting, and delivery of novel affinity separation matrices to accelerate our partner’s biopharmaceutical pipeline. Integrating Protein analytics for determining target Protein functionality and determining impurity levels is also critical to this function. Avitide seeks candidates who are highly self-motivated and can work in a collaborative fashion with other interdisciplinary team members in a fast-paced company that seeks to transform downstream bioprocessing.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of BS/MS with 4+ years or PhD with 1+ years of industrial experience within a biopharmaceutical bioprocess research and development setting
- Degree (BS/MS/PhD) in Biological sciences, Biochemistry, or biochemical/chemical engineering
- Expertise in development of Protein and biologics purification processes
- Experience with Protein quality control or release assays
- Knowledge of biopharmaceutical purification scale-up/scale-down principles
- Demonstrated history of strong hands-on ability, problem solving, and independent experimental design and execution
- Expertise in automated/high-throughput chromatographic screening using DOE methodologies
- Demonstrated aptitude in managing multiple parallel projects
- Timely and very strong communication skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively contribute to the design, development, optimization, and delivery of novel Avitide affinity resins to Avitide’s biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing partners
- Collaborate with downstream bioprocessing engineers at partner companies to streamline technology transfer and integration of Avitide Affinity Resins into partner processes
- High throughput chromatographic screening using DOE and QbD principles
- Purification process development using affinity capture and polish resins, and membranes
- CIP validation and evaluation of Protein and column stability
- Work closely with the Affinity Ligand Discovery and High-throughput Production teams to rapidly translate affinity purification leads to affinity resins for partner evaluations
- Preparation of data and presentations for external partner review
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in biopharmaceutical analytical method development and execution (product purity impurity analysis, product release assays, stability assays)
- Experience with BioSolve or another bioprocess cost modeling software
