North-Eastern Hill University was set up by an Act of Parliament and notified on 
19th July 1973. The objectives of the University, as laid down in the act, are "to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas of the North-eastern region, and in particular, the intellectual, academic and cultural advancement".

Applications are invited for the following research positions in the Research Project entitled, “Chemical Ecology of the North East Region (NER) of India: A Collaborative Programme Linking NER and Bangalore Researchers”, sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi.
The work components of the project at NEHU are:
1. Extra floral nectar: chemical diversity and species-specificity, ecological functional diversity, elucidation of biochemical pathway, and response of ants to extrafloral nectar and honeydew (Dr.S.K.Barik , NEHU- Dr. Renee M. Borges, IISc).
2. Understanding chemical ecology of the Indian Pitcher plant Nepenthes khasiana Hook.f for its conservation (Dr.S.K.Barik, NEHU- Dr.Radhika Venkatesan, NCBS).
3. Molecular characterization of allelopathy among rice varieties of North Eastern India (Dr.S.K.Barik, NEHU- Dr. P.V. Sivaprasad, NCBS).

- Junior Research Fellow : 3 positions
Remuneration : Rs. 25,000 per month + HRA (as per DST/DBT notification)
Duration : 4 years + (the appointment is co-terminus with the project)
Essential qualifications : M.Sc. Botany/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/Environmental Science/Forestry/Plantmolecular biology/ Ecology with NET/GATE (as per DST/DBT notification).
In case candidates with NET/ GATE qualification are not available, others may be appointed as per DST/DBT norms.
- Technician/Project Assistant:2 positions
Remuneration:Rs. 8,000 per month (fixed)
Essential qualifications : (i) Class VIII passed. (ii) 3 years of work experience in scientific lab/ driving/scientific instrument handling/ field work.
